The 'City Link Ostend Banjul, Partnership For Sustainable City Development' project was implemented in Banjul between December 2019 and December 2024. This project was based on a European Union grant of EUR 3 million.
One of the greatest challenges with projects in low-income countries is working out a long-term strategy that will ensure that all investments made are also maintained.
In 2023, the city of Ostend submitted a project proposal under a call for projects of the Wereldhuis of the Province of West Flanders entitled ‘Climate Mitigation and Greening Banjul’ (Klimaatmitigatie en vergroening Banjul). A grant of EUR 20,000 a year was awarded for a period of three years. These funds will make it easier for the city of Ostend to provide Banjul City Council (BCC) and relevant actors with further support. It will be possible to continue the greening interventions effected with European funds and, where appropriate, expand them further. Project activities started in December 2023.
